About Tidosongs
Welcome to Tidosongs Music Library. We transcribe Classical Music from Staff notation to Sol-Fa
notation.
Instrumental music is popularly written in staff notations which lend themselves more easily to accompaniment when the vocals are being performed by singers. Staff notations are therefore more popular among Orthodox musicians or those who have attained formal education in music.
To read staff notations involves studying the stave and many other details that many an average church chorister, who just loves singing, may not be familiar with and becomes an obstacle in the teaching of songs to this grade of singers who, incidentally form the bulk of choristers, especially in Africa.
Frequently, therefore, the choir master brings in songs written in tonic sol-fa notations in which the main pitches or tones are represented in the scale by d=doh, r = ray, m=me, f=fa, s = soh, l = la, t =te, d=doh, that make up the octave. These consist of only seven symbols. Of course, there are semi tones in between the main tones namely de, re, ma, ba, fe, ta … which choristers easily adapt to. So the total number of symbols required to be known by a chorister in tonic sol-fa notations are much fewer than in staff notations. Tonic sol-fa notations are therefore handy forms of music for choir masters in most churches as they are easier to teach the average chorister.
Tidoh, which is a mimic of the seventh and eighth note of the scale, is derived from the tonic sol-fa notations and, in this site, represents music so written. In addition, the author, who has been singing and teaching in the choir for over five decades, understanding the problems associated with learning and teaching music at that level, has rendered the tonic sol-fa mostly within one key, the major key of the song, to overcome the difficulties choristers at that level usually encounter changing from one key to the other which occurs regularly in many compositions in staff notations.
It is our aim to make music in tonic sol-fa readily available to choirs that may require music in this format.
